How IASC’s Website Redesign Helps Combat Modern Slavery

How IASC’s Website Redesign Helps Combat Modern Slavery

IASC required a digital platform that more than functional, but transformative – one that could amplify and aid in their mission to protect victims, prosecute offenders and prevent exploitation.

How do you build a website that does justice to a cause as urgent and complex as fighting modern slavery? The Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner (IASC) posed this challenge, and it demanded more than a surface-level redesign.

Design that speaks without shouting

Modern slavery is a harrowing issue and addressing it online requires sensitivity and intention. Generic imagery won’t cut it, as the mission requires something that deepens the emotional connection to the purpose. Bespoke illustrations were needed, designs that balance humanity and abstraction. The visuals breathe life into the IASC’s core teal branding, paired with complementary brighter tones that offer clarity and energy without undermining the gravity of the subject.

The new IASC website is a design with a mission. Every element is intuitive and accessible to make it easier for users to navigate critical resources quickly. A “quick exit” button ensures the safety of users is a priority.

Embrace

Technology that scales with purpose

At the heart of the rebuild is the Umbraco CMS – a platform as user-friendly as it is powerful to enable the IASC team to publish reports, update content and post news effortlessly.

Hosting on the Umbraco Cloud means scalability, enhanced security and a special nod to sustainability. Even the smallest details, like the environmental impact of a website, matter.

Impact beyond metrics

In the first 30 days since the September 2024 launch, user numbers have skyrocketed up by 67%, and bounce rate has dropped by 37%.

But beyond the numbers, the new site reflects deeper importance. It’s a platform that actively supports the IASC’s three-year strategic plan and provides a cohesive digital space for education, advocacy and critically, action.

An enhanced digital presence in the fight against exploitation

The IASC’s redesigned website is designed to both inform and empower. Digital tools, when thoughtfully crafted, can be a powerful force for change – and at a time where attention is fleeting, this platform delivers what matters most: clarity, accessibility and impact.

The fight against modern slavery requires every available tool. With its new digital presence, the IASC has one more sophisticated tool in its belt to connect, protect and amplify its critical mission.
